Finding Zen in the Edit: My Journey Mapping "The Moon and You"

It’s one thing to play a great custom beatmap in Synth Riders, but it’s an entirely different kind of joy to create one. For a long time, I've wanted to contribute something truly unique to the community, and I'm thrilled to finally share my latest creation: "The Moon and You"

The Inspiration: Tai Chi in VR

This is a soft and relaxing song, I knew a standard, high-speed map wouldn't do it justice. The music demanded something graceful, something flowing—something closer to a dance than a frantic workout.

This is where the idea of "VR Tai Chi" was born.

My goal with this map was to prioritize sweeping, circular movements and full-body sways over rapid note placements. It was a fascinating learning curve! I had to train myself to map for flow and elegance, not just challenge. The result is a set of maps that feel meditative. Even the Expert difficulty is less about arm speed and more about precision and synchronizing your entire body with the rhythm.

Learning the Flow of Mapping

As someone who is still learning and enjoying the process of using the Synth Riders Editor, this project was a huge step. I realized that a map's difficulty isn't just about note density; it's about the emotional and physical intensity it evokes.

For this track, I purposely pulled back the intensity of the "Normal, Hard, Expert" labels. I see them more as Easy Flow, Normal Flow, and Hard Flow. This ensures the beatmap remains true to the song’s calming spirit, giving players a chance to truly unwind and find their own "flow state" without the stress of being overwhelmed.

Every custom map I create, and especially this one, teaches me something new about music, movement, and the incredible potential of VR. I’m proud of how these maps turned out and how they capture the serene feeling of the song.

Ready to Find Your Flow?

I encourage everyone to download the map and give it a try—especially if you're looking for a relaxing escape in VR.

Thanks for being part of this community, and happy riding!
